3 Day Quote Challenge Day 3

Deb at Once Upon a Hot Flash (https://onceuponahotflash.wordpress.com) put my name in for the 3 Day Quote Challenge, where we are to pick a quote and write about its meaning…at least how we understand or interpret it.

In this Day 3 quote I’m calling on the late Ann Richards and her wonderful sense of humor to provide the quote:

“There seems to be a general feeling that if you are funny, you’re not serious. But people don’t know how many brain cells it takes to be funny.” AWR_Portrait

Ms. Richards, former Governor of the state of Texas, was widely known for her humor, and for how hard she worked. But often people were surprised that she was extremely smart and very politically savvy.

Because I periodically see myself as funny, I have questioned my ‘smartness’ through the years. And have been hesitant to show my humor for fear of not being taken seriously.

So, it was refreshing to know that such a successful and accomplished woman could be capable and smart while slicing through chaos with her wit.

Rave on Margo…

  1. I was fortunate to work slightly with her in her first campaign for Governor, and it was a most fun and challenging experience. At the time I worked for a large bank in Amarillo, TX and the bankers were skeptical, to say the least, about this woman who had the gall to think she could become Governor of Texas. I probably need to right a blog just about that!
