My contribution to this week’s Thursday Doors challenge features this door located somewhere in Rome, Italy and I’m thinking it is in or near the Vatican. Much to my sorrow, I can’t say for certain. Suffice to say, I found it impressive.
I did not notice the writing above the door at the time, but once home, I saw the inscription, Does anyone know what it says? I attempted to enlarge, but didn’t get a clear view. Let me know if you have an inkling of where this door can be found.
Thanks Norm for hosting this weekly event. Check out other photographs of doors from around the world…and often out your own back door.
Eccolo, it’s the Holy Door to the St. Peter’s Cathedral in Vatican! I was there but didn’t notice it! 😮 It is opened only every 35 years for the Jubilee Year. The inscription mentions the Pope Gregory XIII.

Oh, thank you. As I wandered through the Vatican I was taking pictures randomly and constantly and didn’t really take time to look closely at everything. So glad you knew what I took pictures of. I love this door, and the art work it boasts. Thanks again.

I said, “Wow,” spontaneously when I saw the picture of your door. That is some door. One of the best I’ve even seen.

Awesome door! There are a few of these Holy Doors around the world but this one’s the grand-daddy of them all. Good choice 🙂
