What’s a Door Without a Knocker?

As part of Norm’s Thursday Door Challenge, I decided to focus on door knockers I found in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Visit Norm’s site for pictures of GREAT doors.

  1. When doors were locked by a bar or latch on the inside, a rope was fastened to the latch but kept inside the door. If guests were welcome, the free end of the rope was passed through the hole in the door. Pulling the rope lifted the latch. Thus the saying “I’ll leave the latch rope out” when inviting guests.

  2. Lots of imagination with some of these. I like the crab ones best. They remind me of the nautical themed ones we saw in Nova Scotia a few years ago.
Nice idea for your post 🙂
