A Life Ignored

“Why,” she questioned, “don’t you want to know?     

“I had a life before you, before I married your father. 

“A meaningful life.

“I knew other people, interesting people. I worked. I loved. I laughed. I cried.

“I had a life.”

At seventeen I had no history, no interest, and no answers.
