A friend explained she would vote for Trump not because she liked him but because of his policies.
I had to stop and think about that, wondering which policies those might be, and determined the main policy she supported was to ban abortion.
If that is the case, she could vote for Biden, since it is a foregone conclusion that with the appointment of a new Supreme Court justice the right for a woman to have a say over her own body and ensure women have safe health options will be overturned.
She may also favor his stand on gun control, allowing anyone and everyone to own one.
But…
I don’t think Trump’s policy on caging children is one she supports.
I don’t think the current administration’s efforts to keep millions of Americans from being covered for pre-existing health conditions in the middle of this pandemic is a policy she supports, but it may be.
I would be surprised she really believes the president has a health plan ready to be rolled out that would ensure coverage for pre-existing conditions since he has been promising one for 4 years.
I doubt she wants Americans to continue paying for the tariffs the president put in place against China with the false promise that China would pay.
It’s doubtful she approved of the big tax increase the super rich received (that includes Trump and his family) while the rest of Americans suffered.
She doesn’t want to eliminate social security, does she?
The list goes on, and I may be missing the policy or policies she insists she likes, but I think it is the abortion issue, gun control, and maybe she dislikes Obamacare.
If her support of Trump rests on those 3 issues, I would say she should vote for Biden, because all of those policies are now under the control of the Supreme Court whether Trump is reelected or not.
There are other vital concerns that need to be addressed and a few of them are:
- Get Covid-19 under control
- Reduce unemployment
- Provide Americans financial assistance as we work our way through this economic and health crisis
- Find the parents of the still caged 545 children who are left abandoned
- Address racial injustice
- Work to heal the deep divisions created during the current administration
- Restore integrity to our government
- Ensure the values and principles of our country are upheld
- Improve relations with our once strongest allies
- Safeguard American security by blocking foreign interference in our affairs
This list goes on also, but as I see it, there are more policies that Biden can address and correct than the two or three that will be settled by the Supreme Court.
I think the policies: banning abortion, doing away with Obamacare, and having no restrictions on the ownership of guns, are huge mistakes and go against what the majority of American people want. But, it appears they are destined to be struck down by the Supreme Court that will include Trump’s choice now near a final vote.
So, a vote for Biden will restore decency, honesty, and credibility without you having to choose Trump for a second time.
Think about it before you vote.
Well said! Well thoughtout too!

Excellent Margo. You hit every point. ONE of my many fears even if Biden wins, besides the Supreme Court, is the Senate. If that asshole Mitch Mc Connell is still there and even if he isn’t they too kill any and everything. Linda

It is very frightening how one single thing can sway a person’s point of view!
