I took my first picture of this man and his dog in 2017, on one of my first trips to San Miguel de Allende. Since then I have seen them, always together, an invisible bond connecting the two. No leash, no commands, just an unspoken understanding between this man and his dog.

I’m still wearing a mask when out and about. But am meeting friends outside without masks. I am so ready to discard masks but think it will be awhile before we feel safe enough in Mexico.
